Radio carrier

Radio carrier is actually the term for a technical variable that changes periodically and also has a constant parameter. For example, radio waves or an alternating voltage, for which a certain frequency or amplitude is characteristic, are considered radio carriers. The radio carrier is also known as the carrier signal. This type of carrier signal is used to transport useful signals using carrier frequency methods. This involves modulating, i.e. mapping, the wanted signal onto the carrier signal. For subsequent use, the two signals are separated from each other, whereby, for example, a message is transmitted in communications technology.

Radio carrier and carrier signal in special vehicle construction

Radio carriers or radio bridges are also superstructures on special vehicles, for example in the military, to which the technical components for radio communication are attached. Among other things, precise antennas and other transmission devices are used here. Initially, radio carriers were mainly superstructures that were mounted on the roof of special vehicles.

Carrier frequency processes through the ages

With increasing technical progress in special vehicle construction, the components required for carrier frequency technology could be significantly reduced in size. As a result, most of the technology in the military and, in particular, in command vehicles and other special police, fire department or military vehicles has moved into the better protected interior. Nowadays, the radio equipment no longer takes up much space and, depending on the vehicle type and the general system integration requirements, it can be installed in various places in the vehicle. As the radio system should always be within easy reach of the driver and passengers, the radio carrier is often installed in the driver's cab, especially in smaller vehicles. For large vehicles or containers with several separate work areas, workstations can also be equipped with their own radio facilities. A mobile radio center even includes all the equipment required for radio operation in a truck or container.
