A levelling device is an indispensable part of a special vehicle or container, especially in difficult terrain. Hydraulically or manually extendable supports ensure that the vehicle chassis and shelter are brought into a horizontal position even when the ground is uneven or sloping.
The levelling device should always be designed so that the system can withstand a greater weight than that of the empty special vehicle or shelter. Especially for large and heavy containers and shelters, the leveling system should offer a certain reserve. Functional containers, which have to accommodate a certain number of people as well as equipment , require a secure stand for their payload of many tons. The same applies to laboratory containers, which often contain very sensitive equipment.
The levelling device is used to establish and maintain balance and can help to prevent vehicles and shelters from tipping over in strong winds or storms. They are also used to connect containers, for example to create a field hospital on uneven or uneven terrain. The combination of the levelling device and the modular design of the functional containers creates numerous possibilities for assembly. So-called leveling supports can be integrated into the corners of the containers or attached to them. If the leveling device is not operated hydraulically, a manual drive can also be used. In this case, various options are available, such as hand ratchets or cranks.
Similar leveling devices with hydraulically driven supports are used in road traffic for motorhomes and camper vans, among other things.
