The ATF Dingo is an armored and armed military vehicle from Germany. The abbreviation ATF stands for Allschutz-Transport-Fahrzeug. It is primarily used for patrol and reconnaissance missions in war zones and is used by the German, Belgian, Austrian, Czech, Luxembourg and Kurdish armed forces. The Saudi Arabian army also intends to order the vehicles and has already received a positive preliminary decision for their export.
The ATF Dingo is a classic example of special vehicle construction in the military. The Bundeswehr primarily uses the vehicle for convoy and patrol missions, which are considered "peacekeeping measures". Accordingly, the focus is on good ballistic protection, while the weapon installed on the roof of the vehicle is intended solely for damage control. Thanks to its compact design, the ATF Dingo can be used on extensive plains as well as in densely built-up urban areas. Comparatively strong mine protection in accordance with STANAG 4569 Class IIa+ or IIIa is an important advantage here. At the same time, vehicles such as the TPz Fuchs are better suited for operations on medium and difficult terrain than the ATF Dingo.
Thanks to a relatively large interior, important goods as well as equipment sets can be transported in the all-protection transport vehicle. Individual adaptations can also be made to the vehicle technology in order to meet the specific requirements of the area of operation or mission. Depending on the design, the ATF Dingo offers space for five or eight people.
