Conversions for special vehicle construction

In special vehicle construction, the term conversion refers to those modifications that are made to a standard vehicle for future use as a special vehicle. If the requirements for a special vehicle cannot be met by the material used in series production, special solutions are used as conversions for special vehicle construction. These include the replacement or reinforcement of certain body parts, for example by means of a special design made possible by the CAD process. The additional equipping of the exterior or interior with a special signaling system, additional LED lights, cable winch, additional mirrors, weapon boxes or radios also count as conversions.

Conversion in special vehicle construction: should dismantling be considered?

In the case of a conversion in special vehicle construction, a later dismantling of the vehicle is sometimes also an important aspect for the planning and design. This applies, for example, to command vehicles and command vehicles, which remain close to series production despite their additional equipment and is relevant, for example, if the special vehicle is a leased vehicle. In this case, the conversion should only be carried out in such a way that the vehicles can later be converted back to their original condition using original parts or parts retrofitted using CAD.

The high-quality conversion of the vehicle to manufacturer level should be the top priority when building a special vehicle. As special vehicles often fulfill critical safety functions, conversions to the equipment and the vehicle itself must be carried out to a flawless level of craftsmanship.
