Special truck bodies differ from a classic platform body or a box body, such as those used for ambulances. Special bodies are required to master special transportation tasks or to transport special equipment and weapon systems. These are one-off productions or small series orders, while standard box bodies and platform bodies are also produced in larger quantities.
A well-known example of the transport of a weapon system with a special truck body is the specially secured and fully air-conditioned SARO (Sonderaufbau Roland), which was used from the late 1980s until the mid-2000s for the Roland air defense missile system in the German Air Force and Navy.
In addition to military or civilian use, special superstructures can also be used in disaster control and in the construction and maintenance of large facilities. For example, it is possible to produce special laboratory cases with integrated measuring laboratories and workstations or to equip them with special equipment such as cranes.
