An ambulance (KTW) is used to transport sick or injured persons in non-acute cases. These special vehicles are used, for example, to transport patients to hospital, to a specialist or to transfer them between hospitals. Ambulances are specially equipped to transport patients safely and comfortably without the intensive care equipment of an ambulance.
The prescribed and actual crew of an ambulance in Germany varies depending on the rescue service laws of the individual federal states. There must always be at least two crew members on board. In some federal states, it is mandatory for at least one paramedic or emergency assistant to be on board.
Difference to the ambulance (RTW)
Compared to an ambulance, patient transport vehicles are equipped with less equipment and medication. The RTW is intended for acute emergencies and therefore has more extensive equipment to be able to carry out life-saving measures on site. An ambulance, on the other hand, is designed to transport patients who do not require immediate intensive medical care.
The equipment in a KTW transport is based on DIN EN 1789. While the KTW corresponds to at least type A2 of the DIN standard, the RTW is a type C ambulance. However, a type B ambulance can also be used as an emergency ambulance if necessary.
Ambulances in the Bundeswehr: rescue service included
In the German Armed Forces, the ambulance service also uses ambulances to safely transport injured or sick soldiers. These vehicles are often adapted for military requirements, for example with special armoring or communication systems. The equipment and crew of such vehicles are based on military standards and requirements, which may differ from those of civilian ambulances.
At Norrenbrock Technik, we have extensive experience in working with such special vehicles. We also offer reverse engineering services to create replica designs for different areas of a vehicle or container solution. This is particularly used in the military sector, but also includes the construction and modification of ambulances for special requirements. In this way, Norrenbrock Technik contributes to the continuous improvement of the operational capability of the Bundeswehr rescue service.
