Ergonomics in special vehicles

Ergonomics plays a particularly important role in the workplace. It is of great importance when people interact with machines and tools. An ergonomic workplace is important for efficiency at work and for maintaining health. Ideally, it should therefore be equipped in such a way that work equipment, the working environment and organization as well as the workplace itself are adapted to the employee and make everyday working life as comfortable as possible. In Germany, occupational health and safety is regulated in several laws and ordinances, including the topic of ergonomics in the workplace. These include obligations for both the employer and the employee. This does not only apply to desk work in the traditional sense. Ergonomics must also be ensured in special vehicles. Employees sometimes find themselves in extreme situations in which they have to remain in the same position for hours on end. This makes it all the more important that ergonomic equipment is provided in special vehicle construction.

For example, the vehicle seat must be adjusted so that all occupants are ideally protected. The driver's seat has a special role to play here. It must be adaptable to the driver in order to ensure comfort and ergonomics as well as safety. The driver must be able to reach the steering wheel and pedals easily.

In ambulances, all controls must be easy to reach and operate from a seated position with the seat belt fastened. This applies in particular to the paramedics who look after the patient in the back of the vehicle during the journey.

Seating position and operating elements are just two examples that are ergonomically relevant in special vehicle construction. The special vehicle can perform various tasks, which is why the workplace can take different forms. Several people can sometimes work inside a vehicle and perform various tasks that have different ergonomic requirements.
