Roll-off container

Roll-off containers are swap bodies that can be carried by special vehicles based on trucks. They are closely conceptually linked to the swap body system, of which they are usually a part. They are primarily used by the fire department and other BOS (authorities and organizations with security tasks) and are available in many different configurations. The exact equipment and room layout depends on the planned area of use.

Roll-off container with specialization

Depending on their specialization, there are roll-off containers that are used more or less frequently in firefighting operations. There is no standardized regulation on how a roll-off container should be equipped, but most fire departments rely on a similar system that differentiates between different hazard categories, for example.

Despite the individual differences in terms of equipment and frequency of use, all roll-off containers must be ready for use at all times. In special vehicle construction, this logistical and qualitative challenge is usually the responsibility of the third-party manufacturer commissioned with the implementation. The selection of the right materials and an ingenious and practical storage space concept for the limited space in the roll-off container are particularly important. System integration is also important - how can the desired components be networked in the best possible way and implemented effectively? This is where the planning and design of the roll-off containers in CAD helps: this procedure allows a three-dimensional model of the roll-off container to be planned, viewed and edited on the computer.

Standardization of roll-off containers

The roll-off containers are standardized in accordance with DIN 14505 so that they can be used as universally as possible on the swap body vehicles of the fire department and other BOS. This measure ensures the interchangeability of the individual roll-off containers on a special vehicle. Frequently used roll-off containers in the fire department or THW sector include variably loadable loading platforms and specialized equipment cases.

Specialized roll-off containers for the military are rare. Here, swap bodies and ISO containers or functional containers are used more frequently, for example for transporting vehicles and ammunition.
