DLRG is an acronym that stands for Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft e.V. (German Life Saving Association). It is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives in and around water. The DLRG is organized as a non-profit and independent water rescue and emergency aid organization. Its activities are fundamentally based on the voluntary commitment of volunteers. With almost 580,000 members spread across around 2,000 local branches, it is the largest voluntary water rescue organization in the world. The DLRG requires special vehicles in order to provide effective and safe water rescue assistance.
Water rescue with the DLRG-RTW
DLRG vehicles are specially designed emergency vehicles that are used for water rescue. They are usually built on tried-and-tested basic vehicles, such as the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 314 CDI 4×4. With powerful engines and tailor-made equipment, DLRG vehicles offer optimum conditions for transporting rescue equipment and carrying out rescue operations. The equipment of a DLRG-RTW often includes special holders for diving equipment, shelving systems for the safe storage of equipment and an advanced signaling system for maximum visibility during rescue operations. The permissible total weight varies between 3,880 and 4,100 kilograms, depending on the equipment, in order to meet the different requirements of a DLRG-RTW. The vehicles are available with both high and flat roofs and can be customized with various additional equipment such as an awning, cable winch, inverter and additional heating.
An outstanding feature of the DLRG vehicles is the clear and effective rear extension concept, which offers generous space and optimum storage space. A shelving system made of aluminum profile is used here, which allows the equipment to be stowed away easily and safely. Holders for diving equipment, a holding bar for diving suits and turnout gear as well as a transport-safe holder for a Combi Carrier II spineboard round off the equipment.
Safety during water rescue operations is ensured by a sophisticated signaling system. The AS-320 signaling system as well as LED beacons, LED front flashers, LED perimeter lights and LED work lights ensure maximum visibility, which is crucial in emergency situations. The vehicle floors are equipped with a hard-wearing spray floor with a drainage channel to efficiently drain excess water from the emergency equipment.
